About
A Berlin Show brings together four art collectives: Studio Baustelle and COPYRIGHTberlin (Berlin), and Acceptable Risk LA and CACtTUS (Los Angeles).
In referencing the Automatic Brake System (ABS), the title echoes the tumultuous events brought on by the initial wave of COVID-19 in 2020. The ABS system kicks in at the moment when the wheels could lock, helping the driver to maintain control of the vehicle and hopefully allowing for the driver and those around them to stay safe. Unexpected events can cause moments of pause, assessment, and reaction.
Our sudden collective delay set into motion new bodies of work, new areas of focus, and in this case a collaboration years in the making. ABS takes into consideration the way viewers move through the gallery and invites them to pump the brakes and take in their surroundings. We hope you’ll accept our invitation to pause, reflect, and explore this collaborative exhibition composed of works from near and far.
Torrance Art Museum (TAM) continues its support and engagement with emerging artists, and artist-run spaces around the world, as we explore the art of our time and facilitate those that produce it.
CACtTUS
Creative Arts Coalition to Transform Urban Space (CACtTUS) is a donation based project space for emerging contemporary artists. Located in the East Village Arts District of Long Beach CA, it was established in January 2017 by Jorge Mujica (MFA 2012 Yale University) and Mayra Serna (MA 2016 Cal State University Long Beach) as a way of elevating the conscience of the community by converting their living space into an incubator for transformative ideas
COPYRIGHTberlin
COPYRIGHTberlin is an ongoing artists’ project and magazine and serves as a non-commercial platform for current artistic positions and strategies.
