About

Connections weave between the works of Berlin based artist Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez and the California LA based artist Nellie King Solomon. Both are cross disciplinary thinkers who imbue their materials with meaning. “Paint seems not only to be paint” it is melted materials or a kind of residue of place and past and thought set in motion. In both these artists work materials matter. Materials are a kind of lexicon of meanings they both consciously mine for their associations. Both artists work in road materials dealing with cars, speed, and the physicality of place and propulsion into personal transformation. Both artist work is created though performative acts with materials as their central player.

In PIPELINE Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez will bring part of her Berlin streets a ribbon of silver salvaged stripes that are the mid-lines Fernandez took from Bernauer Straße in Berlin.  These are poignant to shown in B-LA connecting Berlin and LA physically. Fernandez works deal with memories, cars, and velocity into primordial snake and sounds. A sound piece, with headphones or played out loud, will accompany her Berlin Street sculptural work.

King Solomon’s large-scale paintings on Mylar will build upon her UUUUU series to switch back and devour its own internal logics. The Un-Ravel series and Rip & Flip Frictions of Opposing Fictions in both acrylic paint and road materials uncoils the U to subvert their own structure and question both the artist personal history in Ukraine and contemporary context of current events.

Tatiana Echeverri Fernandez and Nellie King Solomon are excited to come together on their first joint show at PIPELINE LA and build upon that conversation in their successive show in the Changing Room Berlin.

PIPELINE

PIPELINE is a new Project Space featuring one international architectonic and visceral sculptor or happening per month in the nave of Nellie King Solomon’s studio concurrent with Bendix Building openings. Providing a PIPELINE for artists into LA.

Changing Room

The non-profit project space Changing Room in Berlin specializes in performance and sound work and methodically deals with an interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and transcultural way of working.

The initiated symposia and talks live from the co-creation of the audience and an atmosphere of joint exploration. This is initiated in order to become part of the process, the thinking and the acting in the interaction.

The events in Changing Room have been taking place regularly since autumn 2018 in the rooms of a former Berlin horse stable at Lüderitzstraße 11, in the former, so called African Quarter in the Wedding district.
