About

In conjunction  Berlin based Kulturpalast Wedding International , and Mexico City based Punto Magnolia, LAST Projects present, Verklärte Strasse (Transfigured Streets)  a group show that, takes its name from Schoenberg's tone poem, Verklärte Nacht' (Transfigured Night), and is an exploration by six Los Angeles based artists of the sacred, the mordant, and the mundane within their urban landscapes and psychogeographies.;  Exhibited will be  Rachid Bouhamidi’s paintings of urban environments that become temporarily transformed by humans , to Michael Green and Louise’s O’Donnell’s paintings  that in very different ways  reference  the central archetype and signifiers of car culture , Los Angeles and the American West, in its religious and sacrilegious powers   to the  intimate transfiguration, of Luka Fisher whose daily sketchbook drawings become a  journal of her  her transition, and Andrew Wingler and Ilona Berger’s  video works that receive spectral transmissions from the afterlife of objects saved from the Hollywood apartment of the artists Soviet Jewish immigrant grandmother, and Joe Baiza’s drawings, with  loose and consistent style of fractured line has a kinetic quality and a sense of not being quite  solid, evoking the interdimensional.

Kulturpalast Wedding

Kulturpalast Wedding International is an art space in the Wedding district of Berlin that has been run by artists since 2007. The project space is known for its experimental mix of art and music, performance and street actions and was honored by the Berlin Senate for its program work. In 2022, Kulturpalast Wedding exhibited as part of B-LA-Connect in Los Angeles.

Last Projects

LAST Projects is an artist-run gallery, co-founded by Ilona Berger and Andrew Wingler in 2013. LAST began its existence on Hollywood Blvd, and in 2017 relocated to a storefront in Lincoln Heights. LAST Projects was created to foster unconventional art, installation, and performance; cultivate a platform for artists working outside of traditional institutions; and support a diverse intergenerational scene.

Over a decade-long run LAST, has hosted such artists as Xara Thustra, Dorian Wood, Craig Calderwood, Sahar Khoury, Mario Ayala, Sherrie Rose, Bruce La Bruce and the 2019 Queer Biennial. In 2022 LAST produced an 80-year retrospective for then 102 year-old artist Ernest Rosenthal. Notable guest curators have included Sahar Khoury and Alicia McCarthy. In December 2023, LAST Projects was featured in Matthew Stromberg's Hyperallergic article While Others Remain Silent, These Art Spaces Are Vocally Pro-Palestine. LAST Projects shows and artists have been written about in numerous publications, including the Los Angeles Times, Hyperallergic, and Artillery magazine. LAST also has a connection to the Bay area arts community, which has led to shows curated by Alicia McCarthy and Sahar Khoury, Silky Shoemaker and Samara Halperin, which led to LAST presenting Vidal Shaboom…by Jerome.

Punto Magnolia

Punto Magnolia is a convergence point for cultural agents where exhibition spaces, artist workshops, and everyday life coexist. Located at the border of Garibaldi and Colonia Guerrero, this urban neighborhood context is more than a conceptual category; it is a collective community condition.

The goal is to weave a collaborative network with various artistic and cultural agents, independent curators, managers, workshops, collectives, projects, artists, and even other exhibition spaces. They engage agents from other artistic fields that are outside the conventional art circuit, enriching their visual language through reflections triggered by their own contexts.

They organize collective exhibitions with a public program with the aim of expanding curatorial content, bringing the contexts, concepts, and processes of the artists or the works to other disciplines. They hold activities that gather the community, creating open and safe spaces for critique, dialogue, and reflection.

We foster dialogue between different artistic languages and generations with the conviction that critical thinking is fundamental.
